Omar is a fourth-year Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at the University of Calgary. His dissertation focuses on Spatio-temporal visualization in mixed-reality (augmented reality) environments. Prior to starting his Ph.D. program in 2014, Omar received his master’s degree in Computer Science at the University of Calgary. His master thesis focused on benchmarking brokers in the foreign exchange market (FOREX) using data mining techniques to distinguish trustworthy brokers and provide a safer trading environment for automated systems.
Omar is a very passionate software developer. He has participated in many competitions and won many awards. He is a two-time national winner of the Microsoft Imagine Cup competition (2013 and 2014) and a one time international champion of the same competition (KFC Russia Innovation Award 2013). He is also very passionate about his academic life. Omar has received the Alberta Innovates Technology  Future scholarship (AITF) twice; a very prestigious scholarship. He has also received the best Teacher Assistant award twice for his distinguished teaching performance.
During his graduate studies, Omar participated in various internships with tasks ranging between data analytics and software development. He is currently working as a part-time developer at VizworX Inc. focusing on software development for augmented and virtual reality environments.
